Artist Statement:

As we experience the effects of global warming: extreme temperatures, water rationing, electrical charges, and outages, I am in awe of the resilience of nature.

I was walking my pups the other day and admiring our beautiful trees, it came to me that, as humans, we enjoy our trees surroundings and I think we just expect them to thrive as they always have and because they are surviving so are we. It’s a good thing and, maybe not so good, but here we are. We are given countless reminders and opportunities to evaluate our own personal responses to our universal situation.

My image “Still Standing” is a metaphor of our resilience. The electrical energy charges in the background represent the mayhem of nature. The energy is all around us. Yet the vases, representing humanity, are still standing. Maybe a little worse for the wear but still strong. The yellow evokes joy and happiness, while blue suggests a reflective presence of nature.
