Artist Statement:
A prominent sculptural eye form is the witness, being, or a community watching environmental change. It is alert and vigilant, bearing witness to loss and recovery. The wax evokes a sense of melting, refreezing, and thermal stress of a warming planet. Crusted ridges and pitted debris suggest damage to the sea under a melancholy sky. Cool deep blues contrast with warm pinks, gold, and copper highlights, signaling shifting climates and pollution, yet fragile beauty persists. Over time, the eye witnesses warming seas and shifting ecosystems, while the lush wax surface seeks to repair, endure, and adapt to the warming.
