Artist Statement:

This piece originally started as a photograph of snapdragons. Layers of encaustic fused into the photo. I then added ink and burned it, creating the thorns. After that, I added some oil stick and cold wax. It depicts the challenges plants face as weather becomes more extreme. Nature is both vulnerable and resilient. It celebrates the ability of life to adapt while encouraging us to protect the ecosystems that make resilience possible.
