Artist Statement:

Resilience is the quiet power to endure, adapt, and continue to grow despite hardships, its challenges, and unexpected setbacks.

This piece, “Flood,” was particularly inspired by the Camp Mystic disaster and the numerous flooding events that occurred and continue to occur in the State of Texas. While representing that event, I like to believe that the building, layering, and scraping of the wax mirror how the human spirit holds on to and learns from past trauma. The scraping that scars the cooled wax reveals hidden colors underneath, showing that resilience requires excavating our inner strength to move ahead.
