Artist Statement:

Part of a series examining the seaweed of the Northern California Coast, Emersed 1 is both a celebration of the amazing beauty and fascinating complexity of the Pacific Kelp Forests, and a call to action, as such an essential habitat faces decimation through ocean warming caused by climate change.  The piece is a conversation with kelp. Made using light and water (cyanotype from gathered seaweed) and preserved with encaustic, the work seeks to reawaken the emotional connection and bond we all have with the world around us by holding a moment of stillness.
