ARTIST STATEMENT

My inspiration comes from the Japanese concept “Mottainai”. It represents a sense of regret when something valuable especially natural resources are wasted. Respect for nature is considered sacred, and it is a philosophy I have embraced. This concept inspired me not to purchase anything new; I used only “treasured” items stored in my studio. I used a piece of handmade rice paper from Toronto, just hanging around, older copper paint, an old window blind, used copper thread, a shell medallion, old chopsticks, and leftover encaustic wax.
