ARTIST STATEMENT

My painting Blue Field was inspired by the many colors of Spring. Flowers maturing, the ever-changing colors and variety of blooms herald in by rising temperatures and longer days.

Encaustic painting is particularly suitable to the depiction of nature.

Nature, water, and sky are common themes of my paintings which I combine with an abstract and often geometric approach or pattern. My color choices tend to emphasize a wide range of blues — from pale to deeper shades of blues and purples.  The encaustic burn technique utilized in Blue Field enhances the variation in colors and the flow of the painting.

My goal is to delight the viewer with the depth, colors and technique of the painting. I want the viewer to find comfort in the design’s diffuse and ephemeral nature and feel the wax’s flow and movement.
