ARTIST STATEMENT

Inspiration has been defined by artists in many ways. As a visual artist, it starts as a way of seeing, being surprised by nature’s cunning ability to hide something right in front of our eyes. We spent a great deal of time trying to emulate that perfect sky or representation of the ideal pastoral setting. The piece Inside the border explores nature’s layers, hiding inside a vibrant splash of organic colour, the appearance of grasses and vines shrouding an unexpected visitor. Strong and independent and protected from a planed removal nature endures. My training in the visual arts started with watercolours, and after many decades, I now embrace a mixed media approach. I am very fortunate to live and work in a small village within a studio-house overlooking a forest in a river valley. My inspiration is driven by my walks and time reflecting on nature’s changing moods.
