ARTIST STATEMENT

I saw a work of art in my “Bible” for cold wax art by my Italy workshop mentors, Rebecca Crowell and Jerry McLaughlin: “Cold Wax Medium: Techniques, Concepts and Conversations.” Seeing that art, I was moved by a spark from somewhere inside me to create a painting about my own “seeking” of a way to express my feeling of being connected to what is called “nature.” For me at that moment, nature meant the bonds between me and my beloved trees with their hidden roots and this earth with its breezy air and cloud-floating skies. The inspirational piece I saw was painted by Canadian artist Elaine Clarfield Gitalis. I hope my work likewise inspires others to be open to what photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson called “the decisive moment,” and “let go” when inspiration comes, as do the leaves and roots in my cold wax painting when they explore our amazing world and places within oneself.
