MEET THE INSTRUCTORS
Douglas Mehrens, founder of the Encaustic Art Institute, the Museum of Encaustic Art and Encaustic Arts Magazine – has been working with encaustic/wax going on 40 years. This knowledge and experience give Douglas excellent insight and sensitivity to work with artists of all experience levels. Douglas is encouraging and supportive of those who are brand new to using encaustic/wax, as well as collaborating with and providing new insights to artists with more extensive experience and skills working with encaustic/wax media.

Michael Billie has worked as an artist for over 40 years, with more than 30 years dedicated to encaustic art and mixed media. He co-owns the Dineh and Company Gallery on Santa Fe’s renowned Canyon Road with two fellow Navajo artists.
Michael is a founding member of the Encaustic Art Institute and currently serves on its board. For over 15 years, he has led workshops for the Institute, sharing his expertise in encaustic and mixed media. His art reflects his spirituality and environmental awareness, often incorporating natural elements into his teaching.
