Artist Statement:
The species depicted in this piece are the Red Wolf, Polar Bear, Monarch Butterfly, White Rhino, Oregon Spotted Frog, and the Amur Leopard. They are a small representation of endangered species due to habitat loss, poaching, invasive species, over exploitation, pollution and CLIMATE CHANGE. In the center is a symbol for Homo Sapien. Homo sapien means wise or knowing human in Latin. When we use our knowing to support conservation efforts and community based initiates we create a world that supports life for all beings. Species such as the bald eagle and the Florida panther have rebounded through conservation efforts. This demonstrates the amazing resilience of nature to recover when given the right support and environmental resources. The Shipibo-Konibo, a tribe in the Peruvian Amazon, have a word for life giving good energy. It is JAKON. May we bring Jakon to all endangered beings through right intention and right action.
