Artist Statement:
We cannot survive without water. Droughts due to climate change and mismanagement of water resources have resulted in rivers worldwide running dry. Many of these have run dry for the first time in history. Yet, we have the knowledge needed to mitigate climate change and manage the conservation and restoration of our precious natural resources and our global water supply. I created this piece using encaustic and pigmented wax over pit lime, which creates a cracking effect as it dries, resembling an old fresco. It also suggests the cracks of parched earth seen in a dry riverbed.
