JUROR NOTES:
To start the judging process, I examine all the entries to form an overall opinion on the exhibition’s theme and quality of work. I go through each selection 3-4 times and choose work that meets or exceeds my own personal criteria. As with all jurors, quality is subjective, but since I am also a fellow encaustic artist, I look for unique use of material, composition, color choices, size, originality, and subject matter. Additionally, I pay attention to how I emotionally respond to the artwork. Does it inspire a sense of wonder in me? Or does it not move me at all? Have I seen a similar work before? I also closely consider the presentation of the artwork within the jpeg submitted. Is it in focus? Is it cropped cleanly? I prefer artists to present their work jpegs without frames. I appreciate all the artists who submitted their work and I encourage you to keep creating and submitting to exhibitions.
