Artist Statement:

This theme created a conflict for me, as we currently face so many obstacles to climate advancements. I found solace in words(from both the scientific & creative communities), and chose to share those in this painting. I have incorporated 5 relevant quotes under the sea, with hints peaking out. All of my work is inspired by this planet; the positive impact of the natural world and the optimism that it will be tenacious, and that we will be as well. Every painting I create is meant to provide peace and hope.

The full quotes, credited, are below and on the back of the painting:

In every curving beach, in every grain of sand, there is a story of the Earth.

~Rachel Carson

I have found that it is the small everyday deed of ordinary folks that keep the darkness at bay. Small acts of kindness and love.

~ J. R. R. Tolkein

It is a curious situation that the sea, from which life first arose should now be threatened by the activities of one form of that life. But the sea, though changed will continue to exist; the threat is rather to life itself.

~Rachel Carson

Sometimes the bravest thing we can do while facing an existential crisis is imagine life on the other side.

~Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson

Fight for the love a thousand times…
Move out the dark and lead with light

~ MRCY Kojo Degraft-Johnson, Barney Lister, Jonny Lattimer
