General Info: All workshops listed below with Douglas Mehrens as instructor will be held at the Museum of Encaustic Art in Cerrillos, New Mexico. A percentage of the proceeds benefit the Encaustic Art Institute 501c3 non-profit.
Cancellation/Refund Policy: If a person wishes to cancel their workshop up to 10 days prior to their paid workshop, a $50 fee will be retained with the remaining funds returned. If a person cancels for any reason 9 days or before workshop date, payments can be applied to other workshops scheduled within 8 months. No discounts or refunds will be given for participant’s late arrival or early departure during a workshop. If the instructor needs to cancel the workshop, all funds will be returned.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Douglas Mehrens, founder of the Encaustic Art Institute, Museum of Encaustic Art, the online Encaustic Arts Magazine – has been working with encaustic/wax going on 40 years. This knowledge and experience give Douglas excellent insight and sensitivity to work with artists of all experience levels. Douglas is encouraging and supportive of those who are brand new to using encaustic/wax, as well as collaborating with and providing new insights to artists with more extensive experience and skills working with encaustic/wax media.
In the last 10 years of his art career, he has also been working with resin, inventing ways of combining it with 2-D and 3-D encaustic/wax. Loving the sturdy, and unique quality of resin with wax – Douglas has been teaching resin techniques for over 8 years, sharing his vast knowledge and playfulness with this unique combination of materials.

An Encaustic/Wax Workshop Focusing on Experimenting.

This workshop is designed for artists who have existing work sitting aside unfinished and have been unsure how to progress. Could be an oil painting, a watercolor, an acrylic painting or an unfinished encaustic painting. Be prepared to experiment with these works of art. New Boards will also be available for those who want to start fresh.
We will spend the day with all tools and materials available that we work with in all other classes. Students can bring in material to mix, layer, and build from. Building layers, stenciling, scraping, dripping will be demonstrated. A free-flow of ideas to experiment with how to push beyond the boundaries.
